Plowshare Farms is a young and rapidly expanding business seeking a farmhand looking to learn chemical-free vegetable production, small-scale livestock management, and the business principles associated with profitable produce farming. We are looking for individuals to grow with our business, and are willing to provide guidance, training, and opportunities for promotion to the right person.
Plowshare Farms is willing to train any employee on our specific way of doing things, so while previous experience or expertise is helpful, it is not a requirement. The most important qualification is the ability and willingness to work extremely hard while maintaining a positive attitude. The farmhand must be able to perform manual labor, for long hours, with an eye for detail and quality. A passion for promoting sustainable agriculture and influencing our region’s food system helps us through the long work days; a similar commitment will benefit the Farm Manager Apprentice. The ideal candidate will be eager and open to learning as much as possible from the farmer, as well as sharing their own ideas for the farm and business.
Farm Manager
The Farm Manager Apprentice will work side by side with the farmer, planting, cultivating, harvesting, processing, marketing, and delivering a wide variety of fresh vegetable crops. Our business is multifaceted, incorporating high-end restaurant sales, a CSA, and a farmers’ market, as well as farm-to-table dinners hosted on the farm and in Philadelphia. The ideal candidate will be able to move quickly between tasks, and will be equally comfortable taking direction and offering insights.
To apply to work at Plowshare Farms, please send a resume to plowsharefarms@gmail.com. Please indicate which position you are applying for and the best way to contact you.
